Meet Elise
Elise is currently studying a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) and [a Bachelor of] Business Studies. She stared university in 2020 and is set to graduate in late 2023.
Have you enjoyed your degree?
Studying Public Relations and Business Studies has enabled me to pursue multiple different future careers; whether this be event management, public relations officer, copywriting, publicist, or social media manager, I have been given the knowledge and resources necessary to set myself up an as emerging professional.
I have enjoyed learning the correct way to build stakeholder relationships and being able to connect with my peers on projects and events that I already have done, and have become passionate about, thanks to studying this degree.

What skills have you learnt throughout your degree?
By completing assessment tasks and attending classes, I have learnt how to connect with professionals on a deeper and more understanding level. I am also able to work effectively in a team and understand my own strengths I can bring to said team.
I can also stick to a production plan when organising an event, and use software such as Word Press and Adobe to create content.
Have you gained any industry experience?
Throughout my time at university, I have been able to gain industry experience through completing some work with the Sustainability Team to create social media posts, and write blog posts on their sustainability report in the perspective of a student.
I have also had the opportunity to become a student contributor to the Charlie blog, by writing about the expectations vs reality of attending university, as well as interviewing a fellow student as a focus on the Humans of Charles Sturt.
I’ve also had the chance to on the team to create a sustainable clothes swap for staff and students.
While each of these experiences are different, they’ve all allowed me to gain similar yet different skills that I can use to working towards building my future.

Is there anything you are glad to have learnt throughout your degree?
After completing three years of study, I am glad that I have been able to learn that all communication professionals need to start somewhere.
I am now able to take the steps into becoming an emerging professional, and starting somewhere to build a name for myself in the communications industry – which would not have been possible without the support of my lecturers and fellow peers.
