Meet Bryce

Bryce is currently studying a double degree in Communications (Marketing) and Business (Advertising). He began studying in 2020 and is set to graduate in late 2023.

What skills have you learnt throughout your degree?

Being in the marketing and advertising sector, an assemblage of creative work skills have been provided to me to create a free-roam, open-book style of education, learning my skills through creating marketing reports and advertising pieces.

I was given chances to use software and equipment that I may have not used in courses at other universities, to which these skills have helped me already before even graduating, and I am already finding careers in marketing before I graduate.

Studying at Charles Sturt allowed me to gain skills in simple tasks, like dealing with clients and understanding how to respond to various situations or even all the way up to how to form an interview with a client, create a formal marketing campaign, and then publish and release out to the company and the general public.

It also allowed me to grasp a stronger meaning of time management and prioritizing, and how to determine what should be done and when.

Is there anything you are glad to have learnt?

A further understanding that I was glad to be told, is the industry experiences and references that I was presented with.

I was able to get listed among some of the best marketing firms within Australia and have the chance to go and attend open days and internship days where I could learn about what is needed once I graduate and how I can get access to such an internship.

Have you gained any industry experience from your degree?

Now already working in a career that I have studied before even graduating, the university and the lecturers have most definitely provided me with the industry experience that is needed to go out and work on my own reports.

I have been confident to go out to a workplace, gain expert advice on what may be ahead of me in a certain situation, then use what I learned during university and create a marketing piece that will be used within a campaign further on in the future.

Have you enjoyed your degree?

When I was first introduced to my course, being a double degree in communications specializing in marketing, and business with a specialization in advertising, I was expecting to be an overload of report writing and analytics.

Four years into my course, I am writing many reports and analytics but is giving me the opportunities to pursue an industry which I thoroughly enjoy.

By completing a double degree, I am entertained by the way that we are able to complete work and assessments, both by ourselves and in class; but will always have the opportunity to collaborate with peers that may be studying the same subject or course, or even completely different courses.
