Meet Ava

Ava is currently studying a Bachelor of Communications (Advertising and Public Relations). She started university in 2021 and is set to graduate in late 2023.

What skills has your degree taught you?

Skills that I’ve gotten out of this course involve communication skills, team building and working skills, creative skills with tools such as Canva and Adobe, as well as time management and self-discipline skills.

Time management is highly involved when you have to reach out to people on time, create schedules for your work and your group assessments.

Has this degree provided you with any industry experience?

It has provided industry experience with the placement that I completed in my last year, where I was exposed to the future work environment that I will be going into.

In addition, the assessment tasks gave me the chance to use and learn skills that I will be using in offices and work fields such as liaisons, presenting, creating briefs and advertisements.

Is there anything you are glad to have learnt?

I’m glad I was able to learn the theory behind the Advertising and PR strategies, it’s a great foundation to then take off into the work field. I was able to learn how to create strategies with peers to build something or plan something to then present to prospective clients – which is something I really wanted to be exposed to.

Have you enjoyed your degree?

My course, which is PR and Advertising, has opened up the opportunity to explore many different avenues and learn a lot of new and different skilIs; and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my PR and Advertising course.

It challenges me, and I am able to connect with my peers while conducting the majority of my assessment tasks, especially in class time.

This specialisation was what I expected when researching to select it, but it also surprised me in lots of areas. There are so many different elements and things involved in this course, you can learn a significant amount of skills for all different types of work.

It is a great course if you’re looking for lots of options and avenues for when you graduate.
